New Delhi: Just a day after Mohanlal voiced his thoughts on the Hema committee report, which addresses significant issues within the Malayalam film industry, including those faced by women, actor Mammootty has followed suit. On Sunday, September 1, 2024, Mammootty took to Facebook to share his views, aligning closely with Mohanlal’s perspective.

Support for Hema committee report

Mammootty expressed his support for the Hema committee report, stating that he had been waiting for the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and its leadership to share their views before speaking out. He, like Mohanlal, denied the existence of any "power group" within the industry, a claim made in the report.

"All the good and bad in society will be reflected in cinema too, as people in it are just a cross-section of society. But, since the film industry is always under the close scrutiny of the public, the consequential and inconsequential happenings will end up becoming the focus of discussions," Mammootty wrote. He emphasized the need for film professionals to be vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents within the industry. He noted that the government had formed the Hema committee to study the industry and submit a report after a regrettable incident.

Call for unity

Mammootty went on to state that the industry wholeheartedly welcomes and supports the recommendations outlined in the report. He called for all associations within the film industry to unite in implementing these recommendations.

He also touched on the ongoing police investigation related to recent allegations, urging that the investigation be conducted honestly. "Let the court decide the punishments," he said, adding that practical recommendations from the report should be implemented, and necessary legislation enacted if legal hurdles arise. "Ultimately, cinema must survive," he concluded.

Both Mammootty and Mohanlal had faced public criticism for their silence on the report, which was made public on August 19. Now, with both superstars finally speaking out, the focus shifts to how the industry will respond to the recommendations made in the report.
