New Delhi: A teacher at Maesod Technical College in Western Thailand was dismissed after imposing an extreme and bizarre punishment on 66 students who violated the school's hair policy. According to a media report on August 23, the teacher forcibly shaved bald spots into the students' heads, claiming their hair was too long. In addition to this harsh measure, the teacher allegedly used a firearm to intimidate the students.
The incident was deemed inappropriate by the school authorities, who viewed the teacher’s actions as excessive, ultimately leading to his immediate dismissal. Thai media outlets confirmed that a total of 66 students were subjected to this treatment. The incident attracted the attention of a Thai barber, known as "Choppy Champ," who expressed his disapproval on Facebook. Describing the students' hair as being in a terrible state, he offered free haircuts to restore their appearance. Champ emphasized the importance of considering students' mental health and well-being when enforcing school rules. As per reports, the affected students have been advised to take legal action against the teacher, although no further developments have been reported yet.
The event has ignited a widespread social media debate, with many condemning the teacher’s actions. One commenter wrote, "This teacher lacks morality. The students will be mocked by others for having bald spots." Another shared their own experience, stating, "I’ve been through something similar before. I was forced by a teacher to shave my head for having long hair." A third person expressed anger, questioning, "What right do you have to do this to a child?"
