New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army have achieved a groundbreaking feat with the successful paradrop of the world’s first portable hospital, the Aarogya Maitri Health Cube, from an altitude of 15,000 feet, as announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) today.

Innovative trauma care solution

Dubbed the Aarogya Maitri Health Cube, this innovative trauma care "cube" is designed to provide immediate medical support in the field, particularly in remote and inaccessible areas. The Health Cube represents a significant advancement in mobile medical facilities, offering critical care capabilities in emergency situations.

Developed under Project BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri), the Health Cube aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of enhancing humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts. The portable hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, making it a crucial asset for rapid medical response.

Precision drop operation

The paradrop operation was carried out using the IAF's C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, known for its advanced tactical capabilities. The aircraft accurately deployed the Health Cube at a designated location, demonstrating the precision and effectiveness of the IAF's logistical support.

The Indian Army’s Para Brigade played a pivotal role in the operation, utilizing their advanced precision drop equipment to ensure the successful delivery and deployment of the Health Cube.

Disaster relief capabilities

This successful demonstration highlights the military's ability to support humanitarian and disaster relief operations in challenging terrains. The Health Cube’s deployment also underscores its potential for use in future emergencies.

Moreover, these portable hospitals were recently deployed in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, to enhance medical readiness for the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram temple scheduled for January.
