New Delhi: In Bengaluru, frustration with dangerous stunt riding has reached a boiling point. Despite police warnings and crackdowns, reckless bikers performing wheelies and other dangerous stunts continue to plague the roads. This unrest recently culminated in an extraordinary display of public anger.

On August 15, a crowd on the NH 48 flyover near Adakamaranahali intercepted several bikers engaged in dangerous stunts. In a dramatic act of retaliation, they tossed the bikers' scooters off the flyover. The incident was captured on video, which quickly went viral on social media. The footage shows a large group of people on the flyover, yelling at the stunt riders before forcefully throwing the bikes over the edge.

Police crackdown on stunt riders

This incident follows a special drive by Bengaluru's traffic police earlier this year aimed at curbing stunt riding. By June 2024, the police had filed 225 cases against stunt riders. Of these, 93 registration certificates were sent to regional transport offices for suspension, with 26 already suspended. Additionally, the driving licenses of nine individuals involved in stunt-riding cases have been revoked.

Police action against anti-social elements 

The police's efforts to control dangerous riding have included multiple drives over recent years. Between 2021 and 2023, Bengaluru traffic authorities registered 552 cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 120 under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act (IMV), taking action against a total of 674 individuals.
