New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an adult video was displayed on a digital advertisement board in Delhi's Connaught Place, one of the busiest commercial hubs in the capital. The incident took place late on Thursday night, when the explicit content briefly played on a board located in the H-block of the market, causing a significant stir among passersby.
The police were alerted to the situation shortly after it occurred. Officials from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) quickly intervened to remove the video from the screen. According to the police, the individual who reported the incident managed to capture a short clip of the video on their phone before a crowd gathered at the scene. The authorities have since registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
The NDMC has suggested that the incident could have been the result of a hacking attempt, where advanced technology was used to breach the security of the digital board. In a statement, the civic body explained that it operates two types of panels in the area—one for advertisements and another with an interactive touchscreen. These panels are said to be of international standards and are protected by a secure server with a firewall and antivirus software. The NDMC also mentioned that it provides free Wi-Fi hotspots for public use in areas under its jurisdiction.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. A similar event took place last year in Bihar, where a pornographic video was mistakenly played on a display screen at Patna railway station. The Railway Protection Force had to intervene to stop the footage.
