Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticizing the government's handling of the recent violence in Murshidabad. Adityanath held the Mamata Banerjee government responsible for allowing communal tensions to dominate and asserted that political opponents were inciting trouble to stop legal proceedings against illegal Waqf land occupation.

Violence in Murshidabad

Murshidabad violence erupted during protests over the new Waqf Act, and three people died, several were hurt, and mass property destruction occurred. Initial investigations by the Ministry of Home Affairs point towards the suspected Bangladeshi miscreants involved in the vandalism.

Adityanath's remarks

Adityanath stated that the Bengal government has accorded "freedom to rioters" in the name of secularism and accused the TMC government of a "complete breakdown of law and order". He also thanked the judiciary for sending central forces to Murshidabad for providing security to Hindus there, referring to them as "minority Hindus".

BJP's criticism of TMC

The BJP has criticized the TMC leaders' reaction to the situation, and allegations against TMC MP Bapi Halder of threatening the Waqf property protesters. Over 200 individuals have been detained, and security officials such as BSF and CRPF are present to maintain order.

Current situation

According to West Bengal police, normalcy is restored in Murshidabad after deployment of CRPF, state police, and combined forces. People are still apprehensive despite being uprooted, many among whom have taken shelter and do not know whether to return home. Supratim Sarkar, ADG South Bengal Police, appealed to the people not to spread rumors and said that everybody is safe.
