New Delhi: Renowned Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt has launched a scathing attack on Vinesh Phogat following her disqualification from the Paris 2024 Olympics. Vinesh, who was a strong contender for a medal, was disqualified after being found 100 grams overweight just before the gold medal bout. The unexpected turn of events shocked the nation, and the aftermath saw Vinesh pointing fingers at various authorities.

Vinesh Phogat's allegations against IOA

Following her disqualification, Vinesh Phogat blamed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and its president, PT Usha, accusing them of mismanagement and playing politics during the Paris Games. Her appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was also rejected, further aggravating the situation. Vinesh's accusations have since sparked controversy, especially as she recently joined the political arena by aligning with the Congress party. She is set to contest from Haryana's Julana constituency in the upcoming State Assembly elections.

Yogeshwar Dutt's strong response

Yogeshwar Dutt, a bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, did not hold back in his criticism of Vinesh Phogat. In a recent interview on the show Panchayat AajTak Haryana 2024, Dutt firmly supported the decision to disqualify Vinesh and criticized her for involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the controversy.

“She should have apologized to the nation after the disqualification, acknowledging her mistakes. Instead, she called it a conspiracy and dragged the Prime Minister into it. Everyone knows the decision was justified. Even a gram over the weight limit leads to disqualification in the Olympics,” Dutt stated.

Backlash from wrestling community

Yogeshwar also condemned Vinesh for creating a negative atmosphere within the wrestling community, referring to her involvement in protests staged in New Delhi last year. According to Dutt, her actions have tarnished the image of Indian wrestling on both national and international platforms.
