On Wednesday, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) head Swati Maliwal summoned the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, in connection with the wrestlers-WFI case, in which the identity of a young wrestler who has accused Brij Bhushan of harassing her was made public on social media.

DCP Chairperson Maliwal stated in a letter to DCP, New Delhi, “Now, a video is being circulated on social media wherein a person claiming to be the uncle of the minor survivor has revealed the survivor’s identity which is a criminal offence as per the POCSO Act.”

She further said that Brij Bhushan is highly influential and has not been arrested to date. Additionally, she said that revealing the minor’s identity has to be dealt with seriousness.

In this regard, DCW director Swati Maliwal summoned the deputy commissioner of police for the New Delhi District and requested the filing of an FIR. The Commission has requested that Delhi Police submit a copy of the FIR and information about the accused who was arrested in connection with the case.

The Delhi Police have been tasked by the Commission to explain why the primary suspect Brij Bhushan Singh has not yet been detained. The Commission has also asked from Delhi Police a copy of the investigation report looking into whether the accused Brij Bhushan Singh is connected in any way to the act of revealing the identify of a child survivor.

Delhi Commission for Women has asked the DCP of Delhi to appear before them on June 2 along with the action taken on the case so far.

On Wednesday, Brij Bhushan, the chief of WFI responded to the protesting wrestlers and said that the allegations made against him are all false and he will hang himself if proven guilty.

“If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself,” the WFI chief said while addressing a public rally in UP’s Barabanki.

The WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is the target of protests from several top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik, who have accused him of sexual harassment and called for his arrest.
