During his visit to Gujarat Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a lion safari at the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Junagadh district on Sunday morning for World Wildlife Day celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted multiple pictures through his X social media account that depicted his sanctuary visit.
The Prime Minister spent night accommodations at Sinh Sadan where the state forest department manages this forest guesthouse in Sasan following his travel from Somnath. The evening of Sunday brought him to visit the Lord Shiva temple that stands as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.
During his visit the PM will lead a sitting of the seventh National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) at Sasan Gir while the sanctuary operates from there as its headquarters. The National Board for Wildlife comprises 47 members who include the Chief of Army Staff and representatives from states together with NGOs who focus on wildlife conservation in addition to the chief wildlife wardens. The Prime Minister plans to meet female forest personnel at Sasan after finishing his NBWL session.
The central government allocated Rs 2,900 crore to support Project Lion that seeks Asiatic lion conservation exclusively in Gujarat. The current population of these lions spreads across 30,000 square kilometers in nine districts and 53 talukas of the state. The National Referral Center for Wildlife will rise in New Pipalya Junagadh district where it occupies 20.24 hectares for wildlife conservation initiatives. Sasan received two critical facilities with a high-tech wildlife monitoring center and a state-of-the-art hospital that strengthen conservation programs.
Modi visited Vantara during Sunday to see the animal rescue services at the Reliance Jamnagar refinery complex. The facility provides sanctuary and medical care together with rehabilitation services to rescue animals from abusive situations and offers protection to captive elephants and wildlife.
