To recognize and promote its global significance, World Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Diwas) is observed annually on January 10. This day is distinct from National Hindi Day (Rashtriya Hindi Diwas), celebrated on September 14, which commemorates Hindi's adoption as India’s official language.
World Hindi Day aims to spread awareness about the importance of Hindi on the global stage. It serves as a platform to honor Hindi writers, scholars, and linguists while fostering an appreciation for the language’s rich heritage. This celebration aspires to increase the number of Hindi speakers globally and elevate the language’s status on international platforms.
The theme for World Hindi Day 2025 is “A Global Voice of Unity and Cultural Pride.” This theme emphasizes fostering global dialogue and cultural exchange through the Hindi language.
While both days celebrate Hindi, their focus differs. National Hindi Day, observed on September 14, marks the adoption of Hindi as India’s official language in 1949 by the Constituent Assembly. On the other hand, World Hindi Day, celebrated on January 10, highlights the promotion of Hindi at an international level, aiming to establish its global identity and enhance its recognition as a world language.
World Hindi Day provides an opportunity to celebrate Hindi’s cultural richness and promote its usage worldwide. Across the globe, cultural and literary events are organized to enhance love and respect for the language.
