On the occasion of World Elephant Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the extensive community efforts dedicated to safeguarding elephants, emphasizing the government's unwavering commitment to providing these majestic creatures with a conducive habitat. Highlighting the cultural significance of elephants in India, PM Modi expressed his delight over the rising elephant population in recent years.

"World Elephant Day is an opportunity to recognize the diverse community initiatives aimed at protecting elephants. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that elephants thrive in a habitat that supports their well-being. In India, elephants are deeply intertwined with our culture and history, and it is heartening to see their numbers increasing over the past few years," the Prime Minister shared in a post on X.

Union minister Bhupender Yadav on world elephant day

Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, also marked the day by celebrating India's significant role in elephant conservation. He proudly noted the increase in the number of elephant reserves over the past decade.

"On #WorldElephantDay, India takes pride in being home to approximately 60% of all Asian elephants. These magnificent creatures hold profound religious and cultural significance and are vital to our ecosystem. It is a matter of pride that the number of elephant reserves has grown in the last 10 years. Let us celebrate our elephants and the strong bond we share with them," the Union Minister wrote on X.

Celebrated globally on August 12 each year, World Elephant Day serves as a reminder of humanity's collective responsibility to conserve one of the planet's most iconic species.
