Union Minister of State for Personnel Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday announced a new rule for women and single male government employees. According to the child care policy, the government employees falling under this will be eligible to get leave for 730 days which is equivalent to two years.

“The employees are eligible for child care leave under Rule 43-C of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972 for a maximum period of seven hundred and thirty days during the entire service,” he mentioned in the written statement in the Parliament session on Wednesday.

According to the details, the rule is applicable for taking care of children till they are 18 years. However, there is no age bar for differently-abled children. To date, men (government employees) were entitled to get 15-day leave within six months of birth or adoption. But in 2022, the women’s panel has sent a proposal to extend the paternity leave so the burden of bringing up the child can be shared.

The announcement comes weeks after Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced that government employees in his state will get 12-month maternity leave and one-month paternity leave.
