Crime news: Chennai, the bustling capital of Tamil Nadu, was rocked by the exposure of a sinister prostitution racket on May 18, 2024. The alleged mastermind behind this operation, 37-year-old K Nadia, along with six associates, stands accused of exploiting young schoolgirls from impoverished and middle-class backgrounds.In a concerted effort to combat illicit activities, authorities launched a crackdown in the Valasaravakkam area of Chennai. Acting on tips about schoolgirls being coerced into prostitution, law enforcement moved in. Their raid on a local lodge led to the rescue of two girls, aged 17 to 18, and the subsequent arrest of Nadia and her alleged accomplices.Deceptive web around girlsAccording to reports, Nadia took advantage of her daughters friends by pretending to offer dance and beauty classes. However, instead of teaching them, she exploited their trust. Nadia promised them a large amount of money, around 25,000 to 30,000 rupees, but in reality, she manipulated them into engaging in harmful activities and treated them badly.Unveiling the operationInvestigations uncovered a disturbing modus operandi employed by the accused. Nadias plan allegedly involved ensuring the girls unrestricted mobility to accommodate the desires of elderly clients seeking underage companionship. Exploiting the innocence and vulnerability of their victims, the accused allegedly facilitated the girls participation in prostitution, extending their reach beyond Chennai to cities like Hyderabad and Delhi.In a coordinated effort led by law enforcement, Nadia and her associates, including 42-year-old Ramachandra, 43-year-old Sumathi, 29-year-old Maya Oli, 43-year-old Jayashree, 31-year-old Ashok, and 70-year-old Ramachandran, were apprehended. Investigations are ongoing, with seized assets and confiscated mobile phones serving as vital evidence. Meanwhile, the victims are receiving counseling from the District Child Unit, while the accused await their fate in judicial custody.
