New Delhi: A 27-year-old woman working for a private firm, ended her life allegedly due to physical and mental harassment by her colleagues. The Ghaziabad police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter following an FIR filed by the woman's brother under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The deceased, employed as a tele-caller through a third-party company for Axis Bank in Noida, resided in Ghaziabad. According to her family, she endured harassment at her workplace for the past five to six months, leading to her drastic step on July 12 when she consumed poison.
"In a note found in her room, she mentioned committing suicide due to harassment by certain individuals at her workplace, including some staff members," stated the FIR lodged at Nandgram police station.
Her brother disclosed that she had confided in the family about the harassment just days before her death. "My younger sister was subjected to physical and mental harassment by colleagues at Axis House, Noida. Troubled by their actions, she consumed a poisonous substance around 4:15 pm on July 12," he lamented. Initially treated at MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad, she was later transferred to GTB Hospital in Delhi but tragically succumbed during treatment that evening.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Ravi Kumar Singh confirmed that the police are actively investigating the case. "We are reviewing CCTV footage from her workplace and interrogating her colleagues to establish the facts surrounding the alleged harassment. The investigation is progressing meticulously," he assured.
