New Delhi: As authorities in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, continued their hunt for a sixth 'killer' wolf, two women were injured in a suspected wolf attack in Mahasi village on Thursday night. The victims, identified as 28-year-old Gudiya from Singhia Nasirpur and 50-year-old Mukima from Nasarpur, both suffered injuries after the aggressive encounters.

Recent attacks

Gudiya, one of the victims, recounted the incident: "I was lying down with my child when suddenly the wolf attacked and grabbed me by the neck. I screamed and ran. The door to my house was open." The attack took place around 10 pm.

Similarly, Mukima shared her experience of being attacked just an hour later. "I was sitting outside my home around 11 pm. when the wolf bit my neck. I screamed, but it was too dark to see anything. My neighbors rushed to help after hearing my cries,".

Terror of wolf attack

The wolf attacks in Bahraich have left the region gripped with fear, as a series of violent encounters with these predators have resulted in both deaths and injuries. The terror began several weeks ago, as a pack of wolves reportedly started attacking villagers in the Mahasi tehsil of Bahraich. The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has been working tirelessly to capture the wolves responsible, but the attacks have persisted, leading to widespread concern in the area.

Earlier this week, 50-year-old Pushpa Devi became one of the most recent victims, suffering severe injuries after a wolf attacked her on Wednesday. Just a day prior, an 11-year-old girl was also brutally attacked by a wolf and had to be rushed to the local government hospital for treatment. Both incidents have sparked increased vigilance among the villagers, many of whom are now afraid to venture outside after dark. The wolf attacks in Bahraich have resulted in the deaths of nine people and more than 50 injuries, including children and the elderly.

Operation Bhediya underway

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has already captured five wolves and continues to search for the final predator behind a string of violent encounters. The department launched "Operation Bhediya" to address the increasing attacks across 25-30 villages in the Mahasi tehsil. Snap cameras have been placed around potential wolf habitats to track their movements, with three cameras installed near Sikandarpur village.

So far, nine people have been killed, and more than 50 have been injured in the Bahraich region due to the wolf attacks.
