Winter Session of Parliament: What's on agenda?

As per sources, out of 37 bills pending in Parliament are on agenda of the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

Before the start of the Winter Session of Parliament on December 4, a gathering of floor leaders from both the houses of parliament took place on Saturday, December 2. The Parliament's winter session is expected to have 15 sessions which will last until December 22.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi chaired the meeting at 11 AM at the Parliament Library building, New Delhi.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi, and Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh were also the part of the meeting.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, Pramod Tiwari, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji were present from the opposition during the meeting. 

Noteworthy here is that the meeting happened a day before results of assembly elections of four states (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana) are announced on December 3. Results of Mizoram polls will be announced on December 4.

Agenda of Winter Session of Parliament

According to the sources, out of 37 bills pending in Parliament, 12 are listed for consideration and passing, and seven bills are slated for introduction, consideration, and passing in this session of Parliament. Among them are three bills that will replace colonial-era criminal laws - the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Evidence Act.

Other than this, the government has also listed the first batch of supplementary demands from grants for the financial year 2023-24.
