Winter Parliament Session: As parliament’s winter session resumed on Wednesday, Rajya Sabha was scheduled to continue discussing India's prevailing economic conditions initiated a day earlier by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien.

What is itinerary of Day 3 Winter Parliament Session?

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Day 3 of the Winter Parliament Session, also likely tabled the Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2023-24 detailing additional government expenditure requirements for the ongoing fiscal year.

Moreover, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Biju Janata Dal MPs Sumer Solanki and Niranjan Bishi expectedly led deliberations on a recent committee report analysing welfare schemes and the socio-economic status of marginalised communities across locations including the Andaman Islands.

The session will also see Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and Shiv Sena MPs table another committee report with recommendations on augmenting the External Affairs Ministry’s financial allocation to strengthen India's diplomatic capabilities and global engagement.

Which bills were discussed on Tuesday?

On Tuesday, both houses debated two bills regarding reservation quota amendments and legislative reorganisation in Jammu and Kashmir after its enhanced statehood.

The day before, legislation modernising India's archaic postal services framework was passed alongside parliament deciding to lift the suspension of AAP's lone Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha.

Further, three reports proposing new legal codes around civil law, criminal justice and witness protection were submitted on November 30 to Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar.

What do economic analysts say?

Economic analysts predicted financial stability, job creation and healthcare infrastructure may dominate further parliamentary discourse as indicators lag recovery hopes after multiple external shocks.

The analysts added that constructive criticism could yield fiscal course corrections if political conciliation was enabled. The session offers an opportunity for scrutiny over policy efficacy and shaping next-phase priorities.

The winter sitting extends until December 22, squeezing in legislation around wildlife conservation, arbitration reform and public sector bank consolidation awaiting clearance alongside other national issues.
