The ongoing protest has taken a new toll, after a scuffle with Delhi police on Sunday. Top Indian wrestlers who are protesting against the arrest of WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh over the allegations of sexual harassment to wrestlers, plan to throw their medals into the Ganga River in Haridwar at 6 pm on Tuesday before going on an indefinite hunger strike at India Gate in New Delhi.

Notably, wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, who have been protesting against the WFI chief and demanding his arrest, put out a joint statement saying the grapplers will go to Haridwar and immerse the medals in river Ganga at 6 pm. Taking it to Twitter, the wrestlers have unfolded the recent events of how the situation has been handled by the authorities and said, โ€œThese medals are our lives, our souls. There would be no reason to live after throwing them in the Ganga today. So, we will stage a hunger strike until death at India Gate after that.โ€

Reportedly, on Sunday, Indian Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, along with Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat were detained by the Delhi police after they tried to march to the new Parliament building where they planned to protest.

During this, an FIR has been filed by the Delhi police under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 147, 149, 186, 188, 332, 353, section 3, of the PDPP Act.
