New Delhi: In the unfolding landscape of 2024, India is poised for a significant highway revolution, as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) charts an ambitious plan to reshape the nation's travel dynamics through the completion of key expressways. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari's commitment to swift operationalization sets the stage for a transformative year ahead.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

The eagerly anticipated Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, envisaged as the lifeline connecting the political capital to the financial nucleus, is on track for completion by February. Spanning 1,386 kilometers, this expressway not only trims the distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 180 kilometers but also slashes the travel time from 24 hours to a mere 12, promising a paradigm shift in connectivity.

Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, also known as National Expressway 7, emerges as a pivotal link between major urban centers. Infused with an investment of Rs 17,000 crore, this 262-kilometer expressway aims to redefine the Bengaluru to Chennai commute, compressing it to just over two hours—a velocity surpassing air travel. With a light vehicle speed limit of 120 kmph, it signifies a leap forward in connectivity.

Dwarka Expressway

Despite encountering delays attributable to pollution-related constraints, the Dwarka Expressway is poised for a pre-summer unveiling. Spanning 29 kilometers, this elevated urban highway seamlessly connects Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana, offering an alternative route to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and alleviating traffic congestion on the National Highway 8.

Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway

Encompassing 669 kilometers, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway sets its sights on compressing the travel time between Delhi and Amritsar to a mere four hours. With an anticipated operational commencement by the year's end, it not only enhances connectivity but also links religious landmarks like the Golden Temple, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, and Vaishno Devi in Katra.

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway

The final leg of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is swiftly materializing, promising a streamlined journey between the two cities in under three hours. Notably, the NHAI is concurrently constructing Asia's lengthiest elevated wildlife corridor within Rajaji National Park, underscoring a commitment to environmentally conscious infrastructure development.

A fast-tracked expressway evolution

As NHAI propels these transformative projects towards completion, 2024 unfolds as a pivotal year in India's expressway evolution. The envisioned network not only enhances efficiency in travel but also underscores India's commitment to fostering cutting-edge infrastructure that befits its dynamic growth trajectory.
