New Delhi: In Bihar, there is growing speculation that Nishant Kumar, the reclusive son of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, might soon venture into active politics. Known for his staunch opposition to dynasty politics, Nitish Kumar's potential shift in stance has intrigued many. Nishant, who rarely makes public appearances with his father, has sparked curiosity as rumors suggest the 73-year-old Chief Minister might be yielding to internal party demands. If this happens, Nishant could formally join the Janata Dal United (JDU), a party currently lacking a clear successor to Nitish Kumar.

Intensified discussions following Vidyanand Vikal's post

The rumors gained momentum when Vidyanand Vikal, head of the State Food Commission and a party affiliate, shared a social media post on Monday. Vikal stated, "Bihar needs young leadership in the new political scenario. Nishant Kumar possesses all the requisite qualities. I concur with many JD(U) colleagues that he should step forward and become active in politics."

Vijay Kumar Choudhary dismisses speculations

However, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, a former state JD(U) president and a key minister in Nitish Kumar's cabinet, dismissed the speculations as "baseless." Choudhary, known for his close ties with the Chief Minister, urged party members not to publicly discuss this sensitive issue, asserting it lacks foundation and could cause unnecessary confusion. When questioned if this topic had ever been broached in his meetings with Nitish Kumar, Choudhary responded, "What I have said is a sufficient answer to this question."

No major decisions expected at JDU meeting

Meanwhile, the JDU, which emerged as the second largest ally of the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, is gearing up for its national executive meeting in Delhi later this month. A senior party official, speaking on condition of anonymity, mentioned that the national executive meetings, according to the party constitution, should be held regularly, ideally in early June. The official added, "We do not expect any major decisions in the upcoming meeting."
