Amid political turmoil, the Haryana Assembly is set to witness a special session where the newly elected chief minister will go under floor test and prove his majority.

Nayab Saini who has replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as Haryana’s chief minister after BJP broke up with its Haryana ally Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) yesterday will go under a floor test which will be a routine procedure scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday.
Saini took oath as the chief minister of Haryana in the late hours of Tuesday after Khattar resigned from his cabinet. The 54-year-old became the eleventh chief minister of the state claiming the support of 48 MLAs. Saini while speaking to media reporters said that he has urged the governor to convene the assembly session when we will prove our majority on the floor of the House.

As ministers in the Haryana cabinet, four BJP leaders, Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Jai Parkash Dalal, Moolchand Sharma, and Banwari Lal took an oath of office.

Governor Bandaru Dattatreya also delivered an oath to one independent MLA, Ranjit Singh. Manohar Lal Khattar, the former chief minister of Haryana, was also there.

The newly elected chief minister stated that 48 MLAs support the BJP-led government in the state and that the Speaker has been persuaded to hold the floor test on Wednesday.

Political Implications

The outcome of the floor test could have significant political ramifications, impacting the stability of the government, the ruling party's credibility, and Nayab Singh's leadership position.

Majority Support

Nayab Singh needs to secure the support of a majority of legislators to pass the floor test successfully and retain power.

Role of Opposition

The opposition parties are likely to play a crucial role in the floor test, as they may attempt to vote against Nayab Singh or challenge the legitimacy of his government.

It is worth noting that the floor tests often garner significant public attention, as they represent a direct test of democratic principles and the will of the people's representatives. The major breakup came just a few weeks ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Meanwhile, it is also anticipated that former chief minister Manohar Lal Khatter will contest from Kurukshetra, the seat Saini is vacating.
