New Delhi:  A recent incident in Nagpur has been surrounded by controversy and misinformation, leading to widespread misconceptions about what truly occurred. Social media has amplified a narrative that inaccurately portrays the situation, highlighting the need for a clear and factual account of the events.

The misleading narrative circulating online claims that an auto driver in Nagpur threatened  two school girls by saying "I will do the same to you what happened to the girl in Kolkata." This version of the story has fueled outrage and drawn significant attention. However, a closer examination reveals a different reality.

What actually happened?

In fact, the incident began when the girls were engaged in a loud discussion about a climate change seminar while travelling in the auto. Their conversation annoyed the driver, who requested that they lower their voices. The situation escalated into a heated argument, prompting the girls to ask the driver to stop the vehicle.

The dispute attracted a few bystanders, who then joined the argument and physically assaulted the driver. When the matter was reported to the police, the officers intervened and facilitated a resolution. The driver was required to apologize to the girls and the incident was settled amicably at the police station.

Questions raised over fairness

Even though the problem was solved at the police station, nothing was done to punish the girls who started the fight or the people who stood by and hurt the auto driver. This has made many people unhappy and questioning whether the legal system is fair. They are worried that the system is not doing enough to help people who get caught up in conflicts and are treated unfairly. It seems like some people are being treated more gently than others and this is causing a lot of concern.
