Derek OBrien, a member of the Trinamool Congress, on Tuesday promised that, if his party wins the Meghalaya Assembly elections, it will carry out all the pledges stated in its manifesto within a hundred days.While addressing a press conference in Jowai, MP Derek OBrien said, “After our Jowai candidate Andrew Shullai becomes MLA and Meghalaya Trinamool Congress forms the government in the state, we will deliver all the promises made in manifesto within 100 days.” He also stressed on education, health, employment and road infrastructure are the basic requirements of people.The TMC MP dismissed criticism of the WE Card and MYE Card programmes in Meghalaya, saying that some people become salespeople after being elected as MLAs. However, we are returning what belongs to the people through these plans.He said that money cannot win hearts. We believe that the right candidate will win in Jowai and the people of Jowai, across Meghalaya, have made up their minds that they want change now.Assembly polls in Tripura, NagalandAlong with Meghalaya, some other north-eastern states will go under assembly polls this month, ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Meghalaya will vote under assembly polls on February 27 along with Nagaland. Whereas, Tripura will vote on February 16. The declaration of the results will be done on March 2. The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for these states on January 18.In preparation for the assembly election, the governments of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland have declared a paid holiday on the election day for all employees of the government, public sector enterprises, banks, financial institutions, private and all the business establishments so that they may vote.Number of seats in 3 states of NEA total of 180 seats spread equally across three North-eastern states will go to the assembly elections, starting with BJP-governed Tripura on February 16 and followed by simultaneous polling on February 27 in Meghalaya and Nagaland, where the BJP is second in the pecking order of coalitions headed by regional giants. Counting of votes is scheduled for March 2. Tuesday marked the conclusion of the intense campaign for the Tripura assembly election. Voting for the assemblys 60 members will take place on February 16 and the results will be announced on March 2.There will be voting in 3,328 polling places in the state where the BJP ousted the left-wing government in 2018 after 25 years in power. There are 28.13 lakh voters who are eligible to cast a ballot. Out of 259 candidates in these states, 20 are women in the race.
