Oleg Nikolayevich Avdeev, the Russian Consul General to South India, said that he is eagerly anticipating the upcoming soft landing of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission on the lunar surface, expressing confidence that the lunar mission ‘will definitely be a great success’.

The Russian diplomat, in a conversation with the news agency ANI in Chennai, highlighted the mission’s importance to India’s space program.

“Everybody in India and also myself are all eagerly waiting for tomorrow’s event in the lunar orbit. I am sure that it will be a success for the Indian lunar program and the rover will land safely and start functioning…,” Avdeev said.

“I am sure this will be a very fruitful lunar program for India and it will definitely be a great success and there will be more exploration on the moon.”

World’s eyes on Chandrayaan-3 after Russia’s Luna-25 crash

The Chandrayaan 3 soft landing, scheduled for Wednesday at approximately 18:04 IST, will be a momentous event, especially following the setback of Russia’s Luna-25 mission.

Luna-25 mission encountered a tragic failure on Sunday, veering out of control and ultimately crashing onto the lunar surface due to issues during the pre-landing orbit preparation. The mission marked Russia’s return to lunar exploration after a hiatus since 1976 during the era of the Soviet Union.

Roskosmos, Russia’s space agency, released a statement explaining the unfortunate turn of events. “The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon,” the statement read.

In sharp contrast, the Chandrayaan-3 mission continues to gather momentum. The powered descent is slated to commence at 5:45 PM, with the anticipated landing scheduled for 6:04 PM on August 23.

In the latest updates on the mission, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed that the mission is progressing according to schedule. Regular checks on the mission systems are ongoing, and the atmosphere at the Mission Operations Complex is charged with energy and excitement.
