Tejashwi Yadav (ANI)
Following the resounding victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections, speculation arose about the potential impact on the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. However, Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, was quick to dismiss any such claims, stating that the results in Delhi would have no significant effect on Bihar's elections.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Tejashwi Yadav reacted to the Delhi election outcome. He emphasized the supremacy of the people in a democracy and acknowledged that after 26 years, BJP had regained power in Delhi. He remarked, “In a democracy, the people are supreme. BJP has returned to power after 26 years, and I hope they fulfill the promises made to the people of Delhi without indulging in any false rhetoric."
Yadav further pointed out that with their return to power in Delhi, it was now the BJP's responsibility to honor its commitments to maintain public trust.
When asked about the claims made by BJP and its allies that the party's electoral wave would benefit them in Bihar as well, Tejashwi Yadav downplayed the significance of these statements. He firmly stated, "Bihar is Bihar...it has to be understood." This comment signaled his view that Bihar's political scenario was distinct from Delhi’s, with local issues holding more weight than the national narrative.
Bihar is set to hold its Assembly elections this year, and the state is expected to witness a fierce contest between the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and the opposition. Nitish Kumar, who has served as the Chief Minister since 2005 (except for a brief period when Jitan Ram Manjhi held the post), is preparing for his fifth term as the state's leader. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav's party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has emerged victorious in the last two Assembly elections, and they are fully prepared to challenge the BJP and NDA in the upcoming polls.
