Will Amit Shah's high-level meeting help in controlling Manipur's violence?

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023, after a tribal solidarity march in the hill districts of the state to protest against the majority Meitei community's demand for ST status.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting in the national capital on Monday evening to review the security situation in Manipur. The meeting will start from 4 pm in the North Block office of the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Who will join the meeting? 

The meeting will include Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka as well as Manipur Chief Secretary and officials of the state government. 

Manipur Violence 

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023, after a tribal solidarity march in the hill districts of the state to protest against the majority Meitei community's demand for ST status. Till now, over 220 people belonging to both Kuki and Meitei communities and security personnel have been killed in the continuing violence. 

Jiribam fire incident 

Recently, suspected militants torched a police outpost and set fire to several houses in the Jiribam district of the state.
