The upcoming Chief Minister of Delhi has decided not to use the controversial "Sheesh Mahal," the former residence of ex-Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, as the official government residence.

Before the Delhi Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the alleged misuse of public funds for renovating Kejriwal’s lavish bungalow. The BJP had labeled the residence as "Sheesh Mahal," implying extravagance and corruption. The party alleged a major financial scandal in the renovation of the bungalow, using it as a focal point in their election campaign against AAP.

BJP’s resounding victory in Delhi

After 26 years, the BJP has regained power in the Delhi Assembly, securing a landslide victory with 48 seats. In contrast, the AAP, which had dominated the previous two elections, faced a significant setback, winning only 22 seats. The Congress, despite extensive efforts to rebuild its presence in the Union Territory, failed to secure even a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Who will be Delhi’s new CM?

While BJP has yet to officially announce its Chief Ministerial candidate, speculations are rife. Parvesh Verma, the newly elected MLA who defeated former CM Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, is seen as a strong contender. Other names being considered for the top post include Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, Manoj Tiwari, and Vijender Gupta.
