New Delhi: A low-intensity blast shook the tranquility of the Rameshwaram Cafe located in Bengaluru's Whitefield area, leaving at least 9 individuals injured. Karnataka police swiftly confirmed it as an improvised explosive device (IED) blast, shedding light on a suspect who left his bag containing the explosive device at the scene. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar drew parallels between this incident and the explosions that rocked Mangaluru in 2022.

Connection to Mangaluru blast unveiled

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted striking similarities between the Rameshwaram Cafe blast and the 2022 explosions in Mangaluru. Referring to police insights, Shivakumar emphasized commonalities in materials used, including timers and other components. The bulb filament detonator, reminiscent of the Mangaluru blast, emerged as a crucial link between the two incidents.

Bulb filament detonator: A common thread

In November 2022, Mangaluru witnessed an explosion triggered by an IED concealed in Mohammed Shariq's bag, resulting in severe burn injuries. Investigations revealed a pattern: the accused utilized a bulb filament as a detonator, a tactic replicated in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast. The presence of a digital timer and similar battery types further corroborated the connection between the two events.
