In an unexpected political development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Pratap Singh announced his resignation from the party's primary membership on Saturday. Singh's decision comes amidst the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Madhya Pradesh.
Singh, a prominent leader from the state, expressed the reasons for leaving the BJP during a press conference, citing concerns about corruption within the party. He emphasized that his journey in politics was driven by a commitment to public service rather than personal gains, and recent events had led him to question the party's integrity.

The triggering event for Singh's resignation appears to be the BJP's decision to field Rajesh Mishra from Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi constituency, a move that was perceived as a snub to Singh, who was expected to contest as an independent candidate.
Addressing the media, Singh stated that he has no objection to MP candidates but he objected functioning of the party and the selection process of the candidates for Lok Sabha elections.
Singh also raised concerns about the negligence regarding the critical issues that he had been advocating for within the party. He accused the BJP of protecting corrupt individuals and allowing politics to transform into a profit-oriented business.
The departure of Singh, who held various key positions within the BJP, including state general secretary and vice president is a loss for the party ahead of the elections. His followers noted that Singh had enjoyed support from former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had played a role in his political career.
Reacting to Singh's resignation, Madhya Pradesh Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla expressed disappointment, stating that Singh should have reconsidered his decision considering his long association with the party.
However, the state BJP attempted to downplay the impact of Singh's exit. BJP MLA Riti Pathak, who now represents Sidhi questioned the motives behind his decision. He stated that personal ambitions might have influenced Singh's resignation.
The political landscape in Madhya Pradesh is witnessing significant shifts as parties gear up for the upcoming electoral battle, and Singh's exit adds a new dimension to the unfolding political dynamics in the state.
