Meet Tajmul alias 'JCB' who gave Taliban punishment to woman in Bengal

New Delhi: A massive political row has erupted between the ruling Trinamool Congress of West Bengal and the Opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state over a viral video showing a man assaulting a couple in full public view allegedly over their illicit relationship to deliver justice. The involvement of a TMC leader, Tajmul alias JCB, in the assault has particularly drawn scrutiny towards Mamata Banerjee's party. The video, which depicts a woman being beaten on the road, has provoked public outrage. 

Who is Tajmul? 

Tajmul is allegedly a local TMC leader of Chopra, where the incident occurred following a decision of a kangaroo court. He is famous for giving quick justice through his 'insaf' sabha and is a close associate of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman.

Police arrested the accused 

Following this decision, the police filed a case on Sunday and arrested Tajmul.In addition, Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahman stated that the woman had engaged in anti-social activities. He also denied any association between Tajmul and TMC, emphasizing that the incident was a village issue unrelated to the party.
Islampur police have registered a case in this regard and are actively addressing circulating rumors. Currently, the police have provided security to the couple who were victims in this case. Superintendent of Police Joby Thomas K stated that they have reviewed the viral video clip, leading to the filing of a case based on its content.

Controversy erupted 

There is controversy surrounding Trinamool MLA Hamidul's statement, which linked the punishment to the concept of a 'Muslim nation'. He stated, "We condemn this incident. However, the woman had committed a wrongdoing by leaving her husband, son, and daughter to engage in an illicit relationship. According to the principles of a Muslim nation, there are certain norms and justice is administered accordingly. Nevertheless, we believe that the actions taken were excessive. Legal proceedings will now be pursued in this matter."
