The wetlands along the coastal line of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are a well-known habitat for flamingos and migratory birds. Flock of birds arrive on these shorelines around December and are spotted till March and April.

But in an unfortunate incident, almost 36 flamingos have died after crashing into an Emirates flight near Maharashtra's Mumbai, due to which the plane has also suffered damage. However, the flight landed safely at Mumbai airport. The Emirates flight EK 508 was crossing over the Laxmi Nagar area of Pantnagar, Ghatkopar, when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, during the search operation on Monday night, at least 26 flamingos were retrieved while the rest of the carcasses were found on Tuesday morning.

According to the statement of Addition Chief Conservator of Forest SY Rama Rao, the search to find more affected flamingos is on. However, the statement on the incident from Emirates is still awaited.
