A fatal road accident in Vadodara has reignited anger at rash driving and road safety issues. The accident occurred on March 14, 2025, in Karelibaug when 23-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasia lost control of a speeding vehicle and crashed into pedestrians. The accident killed a woman and injured eight others critically.

Eyewitnesses attribute accident to rash driving and drunkenness

As per eyewitnesses, Rakshit was reportedly drunk when he lost control of the vehicle. Eyewitnesses recorded videos of him acting strangely, shouting over and over again, "One more round, one more round." The car, whose owner was claimed to be his friend Prashun Chauhan, who was sitting beside him, was speeding at risky speeds. It initially hit two scooters before ramming into pedestrians and stopping at a bus stop.

Who is 'Nikita'? mystery behind the name shouting

In viral clips of the accident spot, Rakshit was seen screaming the name "Nikita" repeatedly, interspersed with chants of "Om Namah Shivaya." This strange behavior has resulted in widespread speculation on social media, with netizens filling social media with the question, "Who is Nikita?" But rather than addressing the important issue of road safety, many discussions took a gossip and speculation route.

When asked about the name, Rakshit later explained in an interview with ANI that it was a panic name. "The name escaped because I was in shock," he stated.

Did Rakshit take drugs before driving?

As per a report by The Indian Express, Rakshit said he had taken cannabis (bhang) but not alcohol prior to the accident. He also stated that he was driving at 50 km/h, which contradicts eyewitness testimony and video footage that indicate otherwise.

Showing remorse, Rakshit said that he realizes now the seriousness of his act. He wished to meet the family of the victim and apologize, realizing that his irresponsible act had resulted in a loss of life.
