UP Crime: In a deeply disturbing case, the Ayodhya police arrested a bakery owner, Moid Khan, and his employee, Raju Khan, on August 1, for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl over a period of two months. The horrific crime came to light when the young victim was discovered to be pregnant. The incident occurred in Bhadarsa town, under the Purakalandar police station jurisdiction, Ayodhya district. Following the revelation, the Ayodhya police administration suspended Purakalandar Station House Officer Ratan Sharma and Bhadarsa police outpost in-charge Akhilesh Gupta for their negligence.
Moid Khan, identified as the main perpetrator in this case, holds a prominent position as the Samajwadi Party's city president of Bhadarsa town in Ayodhya. Moreover, he is known as a close aide of Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad, as highlighted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Khan owned a bakery in Ayodhya, which was demolished by the Ayodhya district administration on August 3, after it was found to be illegally constructed over a pond, according to Ayodhya District Magistrate Chandra Vijay Singh.
The case has ignited significant political debate. The Samajwadi Party has come to Moid Khan's defense, stating that he is a victim of a conspiracy. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav further fueled the controversy by demanding a DNA test to ensure justice for the victim. "Whoever is guilty should be given full punishment according to the law, but if the allegations are proven false after the DNA test, then the government officials involved should also not be spared. This is the demand for justice," Yadav posted on X.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fiercely criticized the Samajwadi Party, accusing it of protecting a 'pedophile' and exhibiting a 'boys will be boys' attitude. Furthermore, BJP questioned the silence of INDIA bloc leaders on this issue. BSP chief Mayawati also condemned Akhilesh Yadav’s call for a DNA test, demanding accountability and justice for the victim.
