Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Sharma has suddenly come into the limelight. When the fire brigade team reached to dispose the fire after a fire broke out in his bungalow in Delhi, they found a huge amount of cash in the house. When this incident happened, Justice Sharma was out of Delhi. On receiving this news, the Supreme Court Collegium came into action and decided to transfer him to his original place Allahabad High Court. Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna, who is heading the Supreme Court Collegium, has recommended to the central government for the transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma.
Who is Justice Yashwant Verma?
Justice Yashwant Verma was sworn in as a judge in the Delhi High Court in October 2021. Prior to this, he held several important positions in the Allahabad High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge in the Allahabad High Court on 13 October 2014 and was promoted as a permanent judge on 1 February 2016. After this, he was transferred to the Delhi High Court on 11 October 2021.
A huge amount of cash was recovered after a fire broke out in Justice Verma's residential bungalow. According to reports, Justice Verma was not in Delhi when the fire broke out and his family members informed the fire brigade and the police. After the fire was extinguished, a huge amount of cash was found in the room. It was suspected that this money was kept illegally.
Justice Yashwant Verma was born on 6 January 1969 in Allahabad. He did his B.Com (Hons) from Hansraj College, Delhi University and later obtained his LLB degree from Rewa University, Madhya Pradesh. He was enrolled as an advocate on 8 August 1992.
Delhi Judge under Scrutiny
During his tenure in the Allahabad High Court, Justice Yashwant Verma specialized in labour and industrial law, corporate law, taxation and related areas. He also served as Special Counsel of the Allahabad High Court since 2006. Additionally, Justice Verma also served as Chief Standing Counsel of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to August 2013, before he was designated as Senior Advocate by the Court.
