Amidst the internal strife within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, concerns have emerged about the absence of the party's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha. Opposition voices have started questioning Chadha's whereabouts, especially as the Enforcement Directorate intensifies its scrutiny into the defunct Delhi liquor policy, raising queries about his prolonged absence from the political arena.
Information gleaned from Chadha's social media account revealed that he had been in London since March 8, undergoing a vitrectomy, a surgical procedure related to eye health. During his stay in London, Chadha was active in public engagements, including participating in an interactive session at the London India Forum 2024, organised by the London School of Economics (LSE). Notably, his wife, Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra, also graced the event as a guest speaker.
Despite being overseas, Chadha continued to be involved in Indian affairs, notably attending the Prime Minister’s Question Session at the House of Commons. He also expressed his condemnation of Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate through various social media posts and video messages.
The extended absence of Raghav Chadha has not only attracted attention within the BJP but also among the coalition partners of AAP, particularly the INDIA Bloc. Leaders such as NCP's Jitendra Awhad and BJP's Amit Malviya have openly questioned Chadha's whereabouts and activities during this crucial period.
On March 30, NCP leader Jitendra Awhad publicly raised the question of Chadha's absence, although the post has since been deleted. Awhad's inquiry mirrored concerns within the political landscape about Chadha's prolonged stay abroad.
Similarly, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya took to social media to voice his concerns, tweeting, "...Elections have been announced in India. But Raghav Chadha, Arvind Kejriwal’s blue-eyed boy, is in London! Why?..." This statement reflects the broader sentiment among critics regarding Chadha's absence during a politically charged period.
