A wedding celebration in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, has captured national attention—not for its décor or attire but for the extravagant display of wealth. A video from the event shows guests showering ₹20 lakh in cash during the groom's procession, turning the wedding into a grand spectacle.

Cash showered from JCBs

In the viral footage, guests can be seen climbing atop two JCB machines, tossing ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500 notes over the groom's chariot. The sheer volume of cash attracted large crowds, with people gathering on terraces and balconies to witness the lavish affair.

The act of showering cash was reportedly a gesture by the groom's family and friends to celebrate the union in a unique and opulent manner.

Past instances of extravagance

This isn’t the first time such flamboyant celebrations have made headlines. A similar incident occurred in Mehsana, Gujarat, last year. During a wedding procession, former sarpanch Karim Yadav and his family showered ₹500 notes from the terrace of their home, celebrating his nephew's wedding in grand style.

Weddings and festivities: A display of wealth

Weddings aren’t the only occasions where such gestures of wealth are seen. In 2024, a Jain couple from Sabarkantha, Gujarat, donated over ₹200 crore of their lifetime earnings during their monkhood announcement procession. These instances highlight how celebrations often turn into displays of financial prowess in India.
