New Delhi:  Hyderabad, the bustling capital of Telangana, is gearing up for a transformative development push with a massive infusion of Rs 10,000 crores into various key projects. Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced this plan in the budget on Thursday.

Metro expansion a major consideration

A substantial portion of the funds, amounting to Rs. 5,865 crores, has been allocated to expand the Hyderabad Metro network. This includes extending the metro to crucial areas such as the Old City and Shamshabad Airport. Additionally, plans are underway to extend existing corridors, connecting Nagole to LB Nagar and developing interchange stations at Nagole, LB Nagar, and Chandrayangutta. The expansion will also see new routes from Miyapur to Patancheru and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar, bolstering metro accessibility.

Regional ring road

Another major initiative is the development of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity around Hyderabad. The RRR project involves upgrading stretches on both the northern and southern sides, totaling approximately 347.6 kilometers. These upgraded roads are set to become vital arteries, designed initially as four-lane highways and slated for expansion to eight lanes to accommodate future traffic growth. The northern section is estimated to cost Rs. 13,522 crores, while the southern section will require Rs. 12,980 crores.

Musi riverfront development

Hyderabad’s iconic Musi Riverfront will transform with an investment of Rs. 1,500 crores. This project aims to revitalize the riverfront, create humorous spaces, and improve the environmental quality along its banks.

Apart from these headline projects, the government has earmarked funds for other critical initiatives. Rs. 3,065 crores have been allocated to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for urban infrastructure improvements, while Rs. 500 crores will go to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). Furthermore, Rs. 3,385 crores have been allocated to enhance Metro Water Works, crucial for meeting the city’s growing water demands.

Setting up HYDRAA

This plan also includes setting up the Hyderabad Road Development Authority (HYDRAA) with an initial funding of Rs 200 crores. This agency is expected to coordinate and execute various road infrastructure projects across the city.
