Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, 50, has been diagnosed with Leptospirosis, a rare bacterial infection affecting vital organs like the lungs and kidneys. Mann was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Wednesday for routine health checkups when blood tests revealed the infection. Dr. RK Jaswal, Director of Cardiology at Fortis, confirmed that Mann has shown “significant improvement” in his clinical parameters. “The Chief Minister is stable and responding well to antibiotics,” Dr. Jaswal stated, adding that Mann’s vitals are completely normal.
Leptospirosis is a prevalent bacterial infection impacting both humans and animals, caused by the Leptospira bacterium found in contaminated water and soil. The infection can spread through contact with infected animal fluids, with symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea emerging within 2 to 30 days. Antibiotics like penicillin or doxycycline are effective treatments, while ibuprofen may be used for symptom relief. If untreated, leptospirosis can lead to serious complications, including kidney damage and respiratory issues, particularly in tropical regions where risk is heightened.
Leptospirosis, which can cause severe health issues if left untreated, is transmitted through water or soil contaminated with infected animal urine. Mann’s condition was identified after he showed signs of tropical fever and increased pulmonary artery pressure, leading doctors to conduct further tests. The Aam Aadmi Party leader underwent heart-related examinations on Friday, with satisfactory results confirming his stable condition.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released a statement earlier describing his admission as a routine health checkup. However, after testing positive for Leptospirosis, further treatment was administered, and Mann’s doctors are optimistic about his recovery. Dr. Jaswal confirmed that the antibiotics Mann is on are effectively combating the infection, and his clinical progress remains positive. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s condition has attracted widespread attention, with well-wishers and political leaders sending messages of support. The CMO has reassured the public that Mann’s health is under control and his vitals are stable.
