What happens when Goa’s folk trditions meet riot of colors? Welcome to Shigmo 2025!

Goa’s spring jubilee, Shigmo 2025, is set to take place from March 15 to March 29, featuring processions, folk music, and cotillion performances across multiple municipalities. The state tourism department has encouraged trippers to explore Goa's different artistic immolations beyond its celebrated bank. 

A festivity of Goa’s rich heritage

Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte emphasized the jubilee’s significance, stating," Shigmo is a spectacular expression of Goa’s folk culture. We invite trippers to witness this unique festivity and explore the state’s rich heritage beyond its bank." The fests will begin in Ponda on March 15, followed by major fests in Margao( March 16), Quepem( March 17), Curchorem( March 18), and Shiroda( March 19), before spreading to other crucial locales similar as Calangute, Vasco, Panaji, Mapusa, Bicholim, and Mandrem. The event will conclude with a grand homestretch on March 29.

A Spectacle of music and tradition

Shigmo is famed for its folk performances, traditional music, and intricately designed docks that depict mythological and literal tales. Artists dressed in elaborate costumes will perform to the metrical beats of dhol, tashe, and other traditional instruments, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.Tourism Director Kedar Naik described Shigmo as a jubilee that" brings communities together, showcasing Goa in its most various and joyful form." The event serves as a major magnet for excursionists looking to immerse themselves in the state’s authentic artistic geography.

A pivotal boost for Goa’s tourism

As Goa faces challenges in attracting foreign excursionists due to factors like the Ukraine- Russia war, rising trip costs, visa restrictions, and global competition, the state is turning to artistic tourism to revitalize its caller figures. Shigmo 2025 is anticipated to draw both domestic and transnational trippers , buttressing Goa’s image as a different artistic mecca beyond its sun, beach, and ocean.
