Top opposition party leaders met in Patna on Friday to plan out a strategy to build an anti-BJP front ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The meeting was hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD.

Taking a dig at the opposition parties’ meeting, Union Minister Smriti Irani thanked Congress for admitting on national level that they needed help from outsiders to defeat Prime Minister Modi.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi had stated that they are collaborating to defeat BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Addressing the meeting, Gandhi said, “BJP is working to spread hate, violence and break the country. We are working to spread love and unity. Opposition parties have come here today and together we will defeat BJP.”

Later taking a jibe and his statement, Union minister Smriti Irani said in a press conference, “I especially thank Congress for publicly announcing that they cannot alone defeat PM Modi and that they need the support of others to do so.”

They have sent out a message that they are unable of taking on PM Modi on their own, she claimed. “Power has moved from the palace to the people. That’s why people who take pride in their political legacy now have to go to those whom they had put behind bars during Emergency,” Irani said. In a veiled attack on Bihar Chief Minister Kumar, she referred to the recent bridge collapse over the Ganga in the state’s Bhagalpur district, and asked, “What kind of democratic bridge will they make who cannot even build a bridge.” “People are becoming alert about those who could not come together on development issues but now adopting the blackmail route,” Irani added.

Here’s what Amit Shah said

While addressing a public meeting in Jammu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday taking a jibe at an opposition parties meeting said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will form the government securing over 300 seats. Shah said, “No matter how many parties come for the meeting, they can never unite.”

On Friday, BJP President J P Nadda declared that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s political prisoners were now embracing her grandson Rahul Gandhi.

Nadda said, “Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother Indira Gandhi had put Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar in jail but today they are welcoming Rahul Gandhi in Patna. I wonder as to what has happened in politics.”
