Arjun Ram Meghwal, who unexpectedly took over as Union Law Minister, denied that his appointment was influenced by Kiren Rijijus troubled relationship with the judiciary. Meghwal thanked the Prime Minister for his confidence in him and vowed to follow the ideals stated in the constitution. When asked if Rijijus transfer had anything to do with his encounters with the judiciary, Meghwal firmly denied it. After a contentious tenure highlighted by tensions between the government and the judiciary, Rijiju, a vital minister of the NDA government, was moved to the Ministry of Earth Sciences. After voluntarily resigning from the Indian Administrative Service, he entered politics. He successfully ran in the 15th Lok Sabha elections in 2009, beating the Congress candidate by almost 19,000 votes. Shortly thereafter, in 2010, he was appointed Vice President of the Rajasthan Bharatiya Janata Party unit.
