West Bengal News: After 162 harrowing days, the families of a brutally raped and murdered PGT intern at RG Kar Hospital await a crucial judgment. A sessions court is set to announce its verdict on the case, which has captivated public attention since the tragic incident occurred on August 9. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case from Kolkata Police on August 13, has been meticulously building its case against the prime suspect, Sanjay Roy.

A Thorough Investigation

The CBI's investigation has been extensive, involving the testimonies of over 120 witnesses and a rigorous examination of biological evidence, including DNA samples and toxicology reports. During the trial, which lasted 66 days and was conducted in camera, the agency presented compelling evidence to establish Roy as the perpetrator. The CBI argued that the victim fought valiantly against her attacker, as evidenced by five blunt force injuries found on her body. Additionally, hair collected from the crime scene matched Roy's, further implicating him in this heinous act.

Seeking Justice

Describing the crime as one of the "rarest of rare" cases, the CBI has requested the death penalty for Roy. Arrested just a day after the crime, Roy has maintained his innocence through his lawyer, who cited CCTV footage and forensic reports to suggest that it would have been nearly impossible for anyone to commit such a crime unnoticed within a short timeframe.

Voices of Grief and Anger

The victim's mother expressed her deep frustration over what she perceives as an incomplete investigation. "Sanjay (Roy) is guilty, and the verdict will be against him. But what about other criminals who are still not caught?" she lamented. Her concerns extend beyond Roy; she believes that numerous others involved in the crime remain free. She accused authorities of attempting to shield these individuals and lamented that crucial evidence had been lost or tampered with. The victim's father echoed these sentiments, insisting that Roy could not have acted alone. "There are others who were very much involved in the crime but are still free," he asserted.

A Family's Hope for Justice

As they await the court's decision, both parents express their faith in the judicial system. They plan to be present when the verdict is announced. "I want punishment for the guilty," said the mother, emphasizing her desire for justice while leaving final sentencing to the judiciary. In this emotionally charged case, if Roy is convicted, he could face either death or life imprisonment. The CBI maintains that he acted alone in this brutal crime, but lingering questions about additional perpetrators continue to haunt the victim's family.
