Following the resignation of the chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Transport Minister Champai Soren has been named as JMM legislative party leader and has claimed that he has the support of 47 MLAs and will continue to safeguard the pride of the state.
Champai confirmed the stake to form the government in the state yesterday while speaking to ANI.

"We will continue to work to safeguard the pride of Jharkhand. We have staked a claim to form the government in the state. We have the support of 47 MLAs. You have seen how the voice of the Adivasis here has been suppressed over the years," he said.

Apart from this, Champai Soren has also written a letter to Governor CP Radhakrishnan, staking a claim to form the new government in the state.

In the letter, Champai, the devoted follower of Hemant Soren who was detained on Wednesday night by Directorate of Enforcement agents in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the purported land scam, claimed to have the backing of 47 lawmakers, which is sufficient to establish a government in the 81-member Assembly state.

The state minister of transport, Champai Soren, is a seven-term Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Jharkhand constituency of Seraikella. He worked as an independent MLA before joining the JMM.

Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam has also confirmed the support of 47 MLAs, he said, "Hemant Soren has resigned from the post of CM...We have the support of 47 MLAs...We have proposed to form a new government. Champai Soren will be our new CM...We have not been given time for swearing in..."

It is to be noted here that the development has come after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chairperson Hemant Soren got arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the land scam case on Wednesday night.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, Hemant Soren met Governor Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhawan and handed over his resignation after over six hours of questioning by the ED.

Meanwhile, Hemant Soren also alleged that questioning him at this time was more political and was meant to disrupt the functioning of his government.
