WB Governor goes tough on Mamata Banerjee, seeks action-taken report in Nandigram violence

Following the killing of an elderly woman in West Bengal’s Nandigram in Purba Medinipur district, CV Ananda Bose, the Governor has criticized the chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Bose has directed the chief minister to take swift action in the case and submit an action taken report to him on an urgent basis.

Notably, Nandigram has been a contentious area in Bengal politics for a while now, particularly due to its historical significance in the state's political landscape. Mamata Banerjee's leadership has often faced criticism, especially from opposition parties. 

What did Governor Bose say about the ‘Blood Bath?’

According to the sources, in the official communication, Bose ‘cautioned’ the chief minister to end the issues, highlighting it as a ‘blood bath’ and ensuring that all necessary actions are taken within the parameters of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Strongly denouncing what he called violence supported by the state government in Nandigram, the governor emphasized that any constitutional infractions would be treated seriously and that appropriate action would be taken. On Thursday night, the message was forwarded to the state secretariat.

It is to be noted that the violence in the area erupted after A woman BJP worker from the Schedule Caste community was killed in Nandigram on Wednesday night, which triggered a large-scale protest by the party activists in the state.

As a part of the protest, BJP workers burned tires, blocked roads, and closed shops in Nandigram alleging that TMC-backed criminals are responsible for the killing of victim, Rathibala Arhi. Meanwhile, RAF personnel have taken control of the area and have arrested one in connection with the case.
