Water tank collapse in Sitapur: Rs 4.75 crore project fails during first trial

A newly constructed water tank in Sitapur district's Maholi block collapsed during its first trial, raising concerns over the quality of construction under the Central Government's 'Jal Jeevan Mission' scheme. The tank, built at a cost of Rs 4.75 crore, was located between the villages of Kakarhiya and Chithala.

Substandard Materials Blamed for Collapse

According to local sources, the collapse occurred shortly after the tank was filled with water for the first time. Villagers reported that the tank, which had been filled on Saturday, gave way around 3 pm on Sunday, leading to a significant water spill. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as the guard was stationed at a safe distance when the incident occurred.

Officials Rush to the Scene

Following the collapse, officials from the concerned department, along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhinav Yadav, arrived at the scene to assess the damage. SDM Yadav confirmed that an investigation would be conducted, and a detailed report would be submitted to the District Magistrate for further action.

Allegations of Negligence

Villagers, including the local Pradhan, have raised serious allegations regarding the quality of the construction. They claim that despite previous complaints about the use of substandard materials, the contractor completed the tank without adhering to proper standards. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with demands for accountability from the authorities involved.

Investigation Underway

SDM Abhinav Yadav assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse and to hold those responsible accountable. The report will be reviewed by the District Magistrate, who is expected to take necessary action based on the findings.
