A newly constructed water tank in Sitapur districts Maholi block collapsed during its first trial, raising concerns over the quality of construction under the Central Governments Jal Jeevan Mission scheme. The tank, built at a cost of Rs 4.75 crore, was located between the villages of Kakarhiya and Chithala.Substandard Materials Blamed for CollapseAccording to local sources, the collapse occurred shortly after the tank was filled with water for the first time. Villagers reported that the tank, which had been filled on Saturday, gave way around 3 pm on Sunday, leading to a significant water spill. SDM Yadav confirmed that an investigation would be conducted, and a detailed report would be submitted to the District Magistrate for further action.Allegations of NegligenceVillagers, including the local Pradhan, have raised serious allegations regarding the quality of the construction. They claim that despite previous complaints about the use of substandard materials, the contractor completed the tank without adhering to proper standards.
