Women’s fight over water (X/DeepikaBhardwaj)
Maharashtra: Violent clash erupts on the night of January 5, in the district of Dharashiv, Maharashtra over a dispute over a water supply from a well by two groups of far-off cousins; three are reported to be killed and many are said to have been injured in this scuffle
It all began with a disputed controversy over irrigation using water by the two parties who belonged to one blood family of Bavi village, Vashi tehsil. They had two different fields at two separate distant places in and around which was a particular well that belonged to both. They got into fierce fights over using its water. In the scuffle, three were killed, namely Appa Kale, Sunil Kale, and Vaijanath Kale. Four have been hospitalized in local hospitals; reportedly one of whom is very critical. According to reports, soon after the fisticuffs had started things really got out of hand since, according to local authorities, it was this accident that sent the whole community into a state of shock.
Dharashiv police have arrested 10 people related to the case. The remaining case is still in investigation for better understanding. There, local police have vowed to give justice to those people who have lost their life in murder and those have been hospitalized from the beating.
