Violence has once again erupted in Manipur. The militants attacked police posts and houses on Friday night and set them on fire. Due to which 200 people have been sent to relief camps.

What happened exactly? 

According to the information, on Friday night in Jiribam district of Manipur, the militants who came in 3-4 boats suddenly attacked houses and police posts and set them on fire. According to a police officer, the militants attacked Chotobekara post at 12.30. Due to which the entire police post was burnt to ashes. Apart from this, militants attacked many villages and set fire to many houses. Many videos of this have also surfaced on social media.

Why violence erupted? 

A few days ago, militants allegedly killed a 59-year-old man in Jilibam district. According to the police, the deceased had gone to his farm on Thursday morning. From where he had gone missing. Even after a lot of time passed, no information about him was found. His body was recovered after some time. Due to which violence broke out here again. In view of the possibility of violence, more than 200 people have been sent to relief camps. Militants have attacked villages like Lamtai Khunau, Dibong Khunau, Noonkhal and Begra etc. in the district and set houses on fire. Due to which the villagers have been sent to the relief camps set up in Jiri Sports Complex.

Incident took place 30 KM away from Jiribam town

According to the police, the people sent to the camps are residents of villages located 30 kilometers away from Jiribam town. State police commands have been sent to Jiribam to control the violence. According to the information, after the murder, angry local people protested outside Jiribam police station and requested to return their licensed weapons.

Manipur violence 

Violence is continuing in Manipur since May 2023 in protest against reservation, but till now Jiribam district has remained untouched by it. Now a murder has spread the fire of violence here too.
