All over India people will be visiting temples today for this special occasion. Many devotees will take part in fasting on the auspicious occasion. In addition, on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, several well-known artists from across the country are expressing their love for Lord Shiva via their artwork. In Puri, Odisha, renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik used 500 "Shivalingas" to build a sand sculpture of Lord Shiva. In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Gupta, another sand artist, used cookies to create a facsimile of the Kedarnath shrine.

Devotees have been praying at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain since early Friday morning in honor of Maha Shivaratri, today. Hundreds of people poured inside the temple to beseech Lord Shiva with their prayers. The devotees witnessed a magnificent Mahakal 'Bhasma Aarti' conducted by the priests.
