The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently conducted searches at several locations associated with Congress MLA Amba Prasad as part of its investigation into alleged money laundering activities.

Allegations of political pressure

According to a report by PTI, Prasad claimed that the ED's searches were prompted by her refusal to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She disclosed that she had been offered a ticket to contest in the Lok Sabha elections from the BJP, which she declined. Prasad asserted her allegiance to the Congress party and emphasized her consistent electoral success in the Barkagaon constituency.

Strong response from Amba Prasad

Expressing her dismay over the searches, Prasad denounced them as a consequence of her refusal to switch parties. She highlighted her party's stronghold in the Hazaribagh region and condemned the alleged harassment she endured during the searches.

Extent of ED searches

The ED's searches extended to 17 locations associated with Amba Prasad, including her official residence in Ranchi. The Congress MLA, representing the Barkagaon assembly constituency in Hazaribag district, and her associates were subjects of the investigation.

Prasad's family members also weighed in on the situation. Her mother, Nirmala Devi, a former legislator, expressed shock at the raids and suggested they were orchestrated to undermine Prasad's morale ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Political backlash

The raids sparked political backlash, with Jharkhand Congress legislative party leader Alamgir Alam accusing the BJP of targeting opposition leaders. Alam criticized the timing of the raids, implying political motivations behind them.
