Waqf Amendment Bill 2025: The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced this bill in the Upper House. Like the Lok Sabha, this bill will be discussed here too. In the discussion, the MPs of NDA and India Block will put forth their views. After the discussion is over, there will be a division of votes on the bill. This bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha. It will become a law after its passage from the Rajya Sabha.

While presenting the bill in the Upper House, the Union Minister said that there are 8.72 lakh Waqf properties in the country so far. If in 2006 the Sachchar Committee had estimated the income of Rs. 12,000 crore from 4.9 lakh Waqf properties, now since the properties are almost double, you can understand how much income would be generated from these properties at present.

Muslim brothers are being intimidated- Home Minister
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday accused the opposition in the Lok Sabha of threatening not to accept the proposed law on Waqf, but it will be a law passed by Parliament and everyone will have to accept it. He said that for vote bank politics, fear is being spread that the Waqf Bill is an interference in the religious matters of Muslims and the properties donated by them. Intervening in the discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the House, Shah clarified that after it takes the form of law, it will not be implemented with retrospective effect, while Muslim brothers are being intimidated (by the opposition) on this pretext.

This is the law of Parliament, everyone will have to obey it- Shah
He said, 'A member (of the opposition party) said that the minority community will not accept it. What kind of threat is this... This is the law of the Parliament, everyone will have to accept it. This is the law of the Government of India, it is binding on everyone (citizen) (and) they will have to accept it.' He said that this law is being brought to get those who sell Waqf properties out of it. He said that the purpose of this amendment bill is to catch those who rent out Waqf land for hundred years at a very low price. Shah said, 'The Waqf Board will catch this money which is stolen.' Targeting the opposition parties, he said that the collusion going on in his state (for Waqf land) will not work now.
